So as I was going through this search for a placement I was asked all kinds of different questions. Here is just a sample of some of the ones I remember or recorded at the time:
How much of the Nicene Creed do you believe?
How are you already a priest?
What makes up your rule of life?
How do you take care of yourself?
What are your strengths/gifts for ministry?
In one word what is your best characteristic?
Tell us about your teaching experience.
In what ways have you been a leader?
What are you looking for in a position?
If I came to you and said I doubt God is there and what is the one most important thing Jesus has done for you - what would you say?
What are your thoughts about connecting people in the parish - especially across generations?
What are your thoughts on Mission - your approach/interpretation, etc.?
Who have been your models (priests/ministry), how have they influenced you and how you envision your ministry?
What were positives and negatives of being at your Field Ed parish?
Do you have any questions for me/us?
Tell us your story - How did you get here?
Tell us a little about yourself.
How will you do being far from family and/or in a new location?
What do you do for fun?
What interests you about our diocese/parish?
Do you have a favorite theologian? How about a contemporary one? What do you like about them?
What are your ideas for a Pastoral Care Program?
How do you work with others?
What is your Myers-Briggs?
How do you preach/preaching style?
Why did you choose your seminary?
What were your favorite classes?
Thoughts on current tensions in the church and where do you fall?
How was General Convention?
Favorite book of the Bible and why?
Who is Jesus for you?
I tell you, it really makes you think about who you are and your approach to ministry and what you bring and how you fit in, and that's a good thing. I'll also be more prepared to go through similar searches for future positions than say some of my classmates who didn't go through as rigorous a process to get placed. But I sure am glad that this part of it is now over and I won't have to be grilled and on the hotseat again like that hopefully for a good 2 to 3 years.

My favorite, to date, were:
- Do you like older people? (Well, yes, but you have to marinate them overnight or they're awfully stringy and tough.)
- What do you think about youth? (I try not to.)
Funny stuff. But lots of good questions, too. And some that you just can't answer in 60 seconds. Like preaching style, which depends on the audience and readings, and the Holy Spirit... The best answer I've heard to that one is, "Let's discover that together, shall we?"
